SUNDAY OCTOBER
Time To Say Thanks -
As every householder knows, surviving financially can be a tricky business. So, with apologies for errors and oversights, the parish says thanks as follows.

  • Thoughtful consideration of the amount you give in the Sunday collection is much appreciated.
  • Gift-Aiding (Tax) the amount you give increases its value at NO cost to you .For instance, because 39 parishioners have signed for this, the inland Revenue recently sent us a cheque for £3,098. - Thanks Everyone.
  • From time to time individuals have paid for various one-off parish expenses. (e g: Recently the laminated Mass cards)
  • Our Parish Hall: In addition to paying its own way in Utility Bills, Upkeep, improvements, Grass Cutting etc., the Parish Hall through its hard working committee, has been able to pay for: Painting, Decorating and general repairs in Presbytery and Church, Double Glazing in the Presbytery and the New Missal for Altar use (£240). DEANERY PRAYER
God our Father, we ask your blessing on our town. Lead everyone in Blackpool to a sense of your presence. Bring to faith those who do not know you and may we, the followers of your Son, be a blessing to everyone we meet. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Minutes

Fr. Joe (O'Connor) our Dean, welcomed all present and then Simon Stewart led people into a ‘getting to know you’ exercise. Fr. Joe invited people to reflect on the previous Sunday’s Gospel (Matthew 22:1-14).
There was a time of sharing and discussion which Fr. Joe concluded with a prayer.
Simon S reminded people of the purposes of the Council by handing out a summary of the key points in the Bishop’s guidelines. There was discussion around some of these points, though it was pointed out that any conversations about mission or strategy would be deferred to the next meeting.
We moved to the election of officers. Simon S pointed out that the group was in something of a ‘chicken and egg’ situation – we need to elect officers in order to function and yet we don’t each other very well yet. It was suggested that perhaps the officers could be chosen initially for a one-year period. The following officers were chosen:
Chair: Ursula Walker
Vice-Chair: Mary Whittaker
Secretary: Simon Stewart
Those present were also given copies of the feedback from the Pentecost meeting when representatives from parishes had explored local needs and what parishes might have to offer in response. It was suggested that this forms the agenda for the next meeting.
Srs Anne Stewart and Helen Bamber introduced themselves and explained how they hope to set up community in Blackpool. They gave brief CVs and outlined their hopes for how they might become involved in the deanery.
A few minutes were given over to various adverts about parish events which were:

GOOD THINKING: THANKSGIVING AFTER HOLY COMMUNION
This is a very precious time, so let's make the most of it. Many people will have their own way of using this time; special thoughts and prayers and so on. But why not also try this.
Christ the Lord comes to us in a number of ways at Mass. In the Word of God, he visits our hearts and minds with his message for today. At Holy Communion, he comes to us in the sacrament.
AFTER Holy Communion is a good time to bring these two ways together by briefly meditating on the Word He has spoken to us, and making it part of our welcoming him in Holy Communion.

HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES?
Going to Mass, praying, being good and so on, will of course get us to heaven. But if we are not willing to mix with others in Church on earth, we may have no one to talk to when we get to heaven. That wouldn't be much of a paradise, would it?

RESPONSES AT MASS
Last Sunday at the 10.30 am Mass we made a sustained effort to make the responses clearly and loudly. It was lovely; let's keep it up. Today, when the time comes for a response, do please make it loud and clear, WITHOUT waiting for the person next to you to lead.
